SAVE THE DATE for the Newfound Area Nursing Association fabulous, outstanding, extraordinary concert, featuring Nightingale on Sunday, August 30th at 3:00 pm, at the Bristol United Church of Christ located at 15 Church Street, Bristol, NH.
Nightingale was formed in 1993 by Jeremiah McLane, playing accordion and piano, joined by Keith Murphy, voice, guitar, mandolin, piano and foot percussion and Becky Tracy with her fabulous fiddle. The nightingale bird is a figure referred to in traditional songs from many places such as Northern Europe, Canada and the United States. The nightingale seemed a perfect name for the group which gathered their inspiration from a wide musical territory.
All three musicians were well established in New England contra dance scene when they met. From its beginning, Nightingale explored music beyond New England. Songs of Quebec and Newfoundland were heard at their concerts with the underlying rhythmic integrity and sustaining pulse of dance music.
Having travelled extensively playing concerts and dance music, the group decided to explore other musical projects, reworking its repertoire and developing more original projects. These compositions bring together elements of the band’s traditional repertoire with a subtle feeling of contemporary music.
Through Nightingale’s creative resourcefulness, the audience is charmed with music with Canadian ballads of love and loss, blazing Irish reels, cheerful French bourrees and Quebec’s call-and-response songs. The sound and energy reflects Nightingale’s past while touching on the new.
Nightingale is a must hear concert.
